Rankin County Rankin County Schools participated in the Parent Conversations series with Dr. Hank M. Bounds, state superintendent of education. In an open forum with parents, educators and community members, Dr. Bounds answered questions mostly dealing with local and statewide initiatives aimed at making sure all students receive a diploma. Report from Rankin County School District Dropout Prevention Team The Rankin County School District Dropout Prevention Team held its follow-up meeting on March 26, 2008, in the central office Board room. The meeting was attended by eighteen members of the RCSD community which included educators, school counselors, business members, a pastor and several social service personnel. The team discussed the statewide plan to decrease the dropout rate, increase the graduation rate and address truancy. Along with reviewing and discussing Rankin county statistics the team members asked for input from the community members. Topics raised by the community members included students initial contact with colleges, concern for teachers who experience physical, emotional, and spiritual exhaustion, national comparison of statistics, and self esteem issues. Concerns about graduates joining the work force after high school graduation were discussed along with methods of encouraging high school graduates to continue their educations.
